I will tell you in this blog of mine about the number of whistles you have to give in various types of Dals:-
Applicable For All Dals Except "Dal Makhani":-
- Take a pressure cooker and put 1 small cup cleansed dal into it with water which is double the volume of dal
- Put 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp dhania powder and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Bring the dal to boil and cover it with the lid
- Once the air starts escaping from the hole put the weight
- Give the number of whistles according to the table given above and take it off the stove
- Let it settle for the amount of time it takes for all the air to escape
- Then take off the lid and add 1/2 tsp jeera powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala, 1/2 tsp dalchini,
- Then put the Jeera Ka Chaunka or Onion Ka Chaunka in it
- If anything else is less, add the needful and make it according to your taste
